OpenAI is rolling out Canvas today — a new feature to help users write & code with ChatGPT. It essentially allows users to highlight sections for ChatGPT to focus on improving and give specific, inline feedback.
E.g. If ChatGPT generated a legal contract, and it’s near perfect but you just want to edit a specific line—just highlight instead of regenerating the whole thing.
ChatGPT Canvas opens in a separate window, allowing you and ChatGPT to work on ideas side by side. In canvas, ChatGPT can suggest edits, adjust length, change reading levels, and offer inline feedback. You can also write and edit directly in canvas.
They’re also rolling out the following shortcuts for faster inline prompting:
- Suggest edits
- Adjust the length
- Change reading level
- Add final polish
- Add emojis
This will be particularly helpful for writers, developers, and new ChatGPT users. I can also see them spinning out something similar to Claude Artifacts after this.
