Sam Altman just dropped some new ChatGPT numbers at the NYT Dealbook Summit:
- — 300M weekly active users
- — 1B messages sent daily
- — 1.3M US developers building on the platform
But the bigger story was Sama’s AGI timeline: He thinks we could the first glimpses by 2025.
His prediction is that the initial impact will be subtle, but long-term changes (and the transition to superintelligence) will be “more intense than people think.”
More nuggets from the interview:
- — On relationship with Microsoft: Admitted to “some tension”, but aligned on priorities
- — On Elon: Calls the legal situation with OpenAI “tremendously sad”, and that Musk was a “mega hero” of his growing up.
- — Altman also doesn’t think Elon would use his new political power to harm competitors, saying it would be “profoundly un-American.”
As always, Altman interviews never fail to provide an insightful view into the future.
