SearchGPT

SearchGPT

SearchGPT is a prototype for new search functionalities that merges the capabilities of our AI models with web information to provide quick, up-to-date answers supported by clear, relevant sources. With SearchGPT, you can ask follow-up questions just as you would in a conversation with someone, and the context will build with each query.

You can start using SearchGPT by visiting chatgpt.com/search.

To begin, type your search query into the text box in the center of the page.

SearchGPT UI

To complete your search, press Enter on your keyboard or click the arrow at the bottom-right of the text box.

After the search results are generated, the Answer page will display them with in-line citations next to relevant passages. You can click on these citations to open the links in a new tab. Linked citations will also be prominently listed below the results.

To view additional results, click the Source links icon in the sidebar or next to the citations below the answer.

Search Sources

Select the Media button on the sidebar to see images related to your search.

At the bottom of the Answer page, you can ask a follow-up question to build on your previous search.

For instance, if you ask a follow-up question, SearchGPT will use the context from your earlier search to provide more relevant results. The Links and Media related to your search will also update to reflect the new context.

How can I leave feedback on my search results?

We encourage all users of our prototype to provide feedback on the search results. To leave feedback, click the thumbs up or thumbs down icons located at the bottom left of each search result.

After clicking, you’ll be presented with several preset feedback options and the opportunity to provide specific details. Please select all options that are relevant to your experience with the search results.

When will this be widely available?

We’re continuously working on improving features like local information and commerce. We also plan to gather feedback on the prototype to enhance the experience before integrating it into ChatGPT. If you’d like to be among the first to try it, sign up for the waitlist.

Is this different from ChatGPT?

Yes, SearchGPT is distinct from ChatGPT. OpenAI plan to integrate the SearchGPT experience into ChatGPT in the future.

ChatGPT is based on language models (GPT-3.5, GPT-4, and GPT-4o) that are fine-tuned to generate text. It was optimized for dialogue through Reinforcement Learning with Human Feedback (RLHF), a technique that uses human feedback to shape the model’s responses.

In contrast, SearchGPT combines the power of our AI models with web information to provide fast, up-to-date answers with clear, relevant sources.
