GPT-5 Release

GPT-5 Release

It would not be inaccurate to say that OpenAI initiated the AI race, particularly after the launch of ChatGPT, which triggered a surge in competitive AI technologies. Following this, Microsoft introduced CoPilot, Google launched Gemini, and Meta recently debuted Llama 3. Despite these advancements, OpenAI’s GPT might seem to lag, especially since the last significant update, GPT-4, was released in March 2023. Nevertheless, this may change soon as anticipation grows for GPT-5.

Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, has confirmed that GPT-5 is on the horizon, though its release date and features are still under wraps. Yet, speculation and rumors offer a glimpse into what might be expected.

Release Timeline for GPT-5

Initial projections based on GPT-4’s development suggested a 2025 release for GPT-5. However, a report from Business Insider indicates a potential announcement as early as the summer of 2024. There was heightened anticipation for an April 22 release, coinciding with Sam Altman’s birthday, but no announcement occurred. Recent reports now hint at a possible launch on April 23.

There is also speculation that OpenAI might introduce an intermediary version, GPT-4.5, which would feature enhanced performance and a larger context window, prior to the full GPT-5 release. OpenAI is also expected to unveil other products this year, including the much-anticipated AI voice product, Voice Engine, and possibly another AI language model.

Anticipated Features of GPT-5

Sam Altman has indicated that GPT-5 will significantly surpass its predecessors, possibly with over 1.5 trillion parameters. It aims to be a state-of-the-art language model with improved reasoning capabilities and more natural conversational interactions.

GPT-5 is also expected to be multimodal, capable of processing inputs beyond text, such as images, videos, and other data forms. With a focus on agents, GPT-5 could autonomously perform tasks and connect to various services, potentially handling everyday activities like booking flights, generating spreadsheets, or managing grocery shopping according to user preferences.

Pricing for GPT-5

Currently, the free version of ChatGPT runs on the older GPT-3.5 model. To access the latest model, users must subscribe to a $20 per month plan. It is likely that GPT-5 will also adopt a similar subscription model.
